The Old Town Temecula Community Theater is getting ready to host the September installment of danceXchange on Tuesday, September 17th. Co-produced by Dance Theatre Collective of Southern california and Temecula Presents, danceXchange is a community-wide celebration of dance, artistry, and business. Local dance artists share original work, perform in front of a friendly and appreciative audience, and network with other artists. At the same time, local business come to the forefront as sponsors and patrons of dance; in return, their business gets to share the spotlight, with advertising and promotional items to be given away at an intermission raffle.
In short, it is a good place for dance and community to meet!
This month is no exception. We are pleased to be highlighting Ballet Folklorico of Lake Elsinore and Temecula, a traditional Mexican folk dance group. This dance company is directed by instructor Lorena Hancock, under the Lake Elsinore and Temecula recreational department. Ballet Folklorico celebrates dance and local folk culture with familiar ballet characteristics – pointed toes and exaggerated theatrical movements. Folklorico dance uses traditional costuming, which is dramatically colorful.
We welcome Dunamix Dance Project (directed by Nicole Thomas) and Val Carnahan, who will also be joining the program, sharing original work in the Old Town Temecula Community Theater Courtyard!
A unique danceXperience class in IMPROVISATION will be offered prior to this month’s danceXchange! A free community dance class with Sue Roginski (P.L.A.C.E. Performance) is scheduled from 6:15pm to 7:00 PM in the Dance Studio at OTTCT. This all-levels-welcome improvisation class offers the experienced dancer possibilities in movement choices while also embracing the “new to dance” mover. We will look at improvisation as a thoughtful and valid dance technique as well as connecting the skills to everyday life.
