Temecula celebrates dance the third Tuesday of each month during its very popular danceXchange. An open platform for local dancers to share new work, danceXchange has been serving the community for four years. At the end of the year, we celebrate the start of the fifth year of danceXchange (originally known as DanceMoves).
Returning to the Merc stage (after five months of performances in the courtyard and on the mainstage), we will see original work from our local modern dance company,Avocado Dance Theatre. Avocado will unveil a new work that was a community-commission. This piece, entitled “Ah, ha!” began with input from the audience, who donated ideas, images, dance moves, and funds in a game-like setting during their “Dancing It Forward” October fundraiser, benefiting Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest County. This piece is full of unique ideas, energetic qualities, and creative exploration…not to mention the balloons! Avocado Dance Theatre will also present a re-imagined piece of depth and beauty by Alexandra Thomsen-Wolfe, “I, for One.”
danceXchange is presented in cooperation between Temecula Presents and Dance Theatre Collective of Southern California. The program provides an artistic space for local dancers to present new work and creative ideas through the dance medium. In addition to Avocado Dance Theatre’s work, local artists performing on the December 17th program includ Kylie Kruger, Rebecca Mishler, Mona Rose, Joseph Lister, Elena Pankey, Val Carnahan, Mary Jones, Elena Holgren, Morwenna Asaaf, and Paige Smith.
As well, we anticipate an audience-participation “dance”, with the Hu-Mandala work, developed prior to the show in the danceXperience (at 6pm). No previous dance experience is required! (See flyer below).
Tickets may be purchased ahead of time atwww.TemeculaTheater.org, or a quick visit to the box office just before the start will get you in to the hottest Tuesday night ticket in Temecula–all for just $5.00!
