Where Dance and Community Meet!

The October edition of danceXchange –

ablaze with moving art and dancing spirit!

danceXchange

Every third Tuesday of every month, the Old Town Temecula  Community Theater opens its doors to dance artists who are creating original work, as a place to share their work and dance community together!  Co-produced by Temecula Presents and Dance Theatre Collective of Southern California, the showcase has developed into a workspace for dance artists of all genres throughout Southern California.  Dancers regularly come from Los Angeles, Orange County, Riverside, and San Diego–not to mention the dancers of the Inland Valley who create some of the most beautiful dance around.

October 18th, danceXchange will feature the dance of one of its local movers, Kristin Brown.  Brown began her study of dance at a young age. She had the opportunity to study at dance schools in California and Utah where she learned a variety of dance styles including; ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, and contemporary. She furthered her training in college and received her BA in Dance from Brigham Young University (BYU). While at BYU she was able to perform on the touring company, Contemporary Dance Theatre, and travel with them to India and Colorado. Kristin had the opportunity to work with renowned choreographers Donald McKayle, Diavolo dancers Jenn and Omar Olivas, Jennifer Backhaus, and others.

Kristin received further training at summer intensives including San Francisco Conservatory of Dance, Paul Taylor, and Complexions Contemporary Ballet. She performed with the Utah-based company, SALT Contemporary Dance. Currently she is a member of Avocado Dance Theatre and is entering her second season. Kristin has a passion for teaching dance and loves to choreograph.

Kristin Brown, On Choreography

She loves the choreographic process and creating new movement. Her movement vocabulary is visceral and engaging. She believes dance is a way to connect with others in a deep and emotional way that sometimes words cannot. In the October 18 danceXchange, you will have the pleasure of seeing two pieces choreographed by Ms. Brown.  She hopes you will find her work to be both inspiring and uplifting.
